Hello, and welcome!

For those unfamiliar with my work, I’ve been writing about politics and culture for more than a decade and you can find me in places like Jacobin, the Washington Post, the Toronto Star, and the New Statesman. I’m co-host of the film and politics podcast Michael and Us and in 2022 I published a collection of essays called The Dead Center: Reflections on Liberalism and Democracy After the End of History. More recently, I coauthored 2023’s Seeking Social Democracy with the late Ed Broadbent — former leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party.

On this Substack, you’ll find an eclectic mixture of writing about all things political, cultural, and literary. I write regularly on US, Canadian, and British politics, but you’ll also find pieces on the likes of George Orwell, the Toronto Blue Jays, the political economy of video games, centrist pundits, and plenty more. Free subscribers will get access to regular free posts most weeks, though if you’re able to contribute and support my work you’ll get access to paywalled posts and essays as well.

Cheers, and welcome aboard.

-Luke
