I recently joined my friends Evelyn Quartz and Corbin Trent for a broad-ranging conversation about the state of American politics. Evelyn is a former Capitol Hill staffer who has been writing about the ongoing disintegration and dysfunction of America’s political class with particular perceptiveness. Corbin, for his part, co-founded Justice Democrats and has worked for both Bernie Sanders and AOC. Our discussion touched on a great deal, from the state of the Trump presidency and AOC’s rumoured presidential ambitions to the more general problems of a spectacle-based politics increasingly detached from both meaningful democratic participation and popular consent. A big thanks to everyone who was able to join us live.
As a minor production note, this is the third piece of livestream/audiovisual content I’ve published recently. And, while this Substack will very much remain anchored in writing, I do enjoy the format and hope to continue with this kind of thing in the future. Enjoy.
