If Lula was a milquetoast centrist, Yglesias and his ilk would falling over themselves to publish pieces titled "What Democrats can learn from Brazil's election." He's utterly shameless.
Yglesias is a fine example of the maxim that you go right as you get older. Fortunately he is bucking the trend as now people are moving left as they survey the ruins of their hopes and governments brought about by toxic Neo liberalism. Brasil, Serbia ,Albania, France and soon the mid terms . I am feeling happier.
For ages media around the world have covered US elections, which is natural given that the US is (up to so far) the most powerful country in the world. USians have been complaining for ages about foreigners comenting US politics. Now there are USians that are jealous about some other country (such as Brazil) taking over their spotlight (even if only for a while).
